The Focal Points of Fashion Month

Hey darlings,

As I’m sure (some of) you know, Fashion Week has been ongoing for… a couple of weeks now. We’ve witnessed Paris Haute Couture Week, New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and now Milan Fashion Week.

If I’m being entirely honest, apart from Paris Haute Couture, I feel like fashion month has been pretty underwhelming. Very few of the shows struck a chord with me, but that being said, here are the looks I did enjoy!

I really enjoyed the collection’s palette and the color blocking was masterfully executed. Not too loud, but not underwhelming either. The asymmetry with the repetition of the single glove is a detail I adored, and the bangles added a very nice, almost bohemian, touch. Overall, I think what I enjoyed most was its use of texture in unison with the use of color. It created a very cohesive, but interesting collection, and the addition of the animal figures was unexpected but beautiful.

I didn’t love the entire collection, but these three looks. These three are something else to me, I’m in love. They're so different but so alike? I wish I could reveal the secrets of how it’s done, but I have no idea. I’m baffled by the textures and entranced by the silhouettes, the neutrals contrasting perfectly with the crinkled gold. I just… wow.

I did not expect to like David Koma as much as I did, but I loved it! If it’s not my favorite, then it’s definitely my runner-up. The silhouettes were so interesting, and the leather and feathers provided a wonderful contrast of delicate and edgy. That’s what David Koma is, the marriage of rebelliousness and femininity. An entire shirt made up of rock-sized crystals? I’m more than down.

I’m always hyped for Siriano. This collection channels desert princess' luxe vacation. That’s how I can put the vibes into words. The use of lurex, tulle, and satin was exquisite, and I’m obsessed with the reimagined classics. Like the black dress, that just happens to have a transparent midriff, and this dress with a sky-high slit!

This collection was a very enjoyable fever dream. The connection between all the looks is this high-neck element, and I find it fun, and unique. Especially since each look executed the covered neck differently. Side note, I need to have this gold jacket and turquoise choker in my closet as soon as humanly possible.

I love the contrast that Gabriela Hearst is giving us. I mean, look at the outfit in the middle: it’s giving chic potato sack, right? There’s nothing tailored about it. But then you look at this gorgeous dress on the right, which is seemingly defying the laws of physics and it’s the complete opposite. Looking to the left, all we see is this black fur coat, taunting us with the mysteries of whatever lies beneath. I honestly really enjoyed her simplicity, it’s not boring, it’s done right.

Tory Burch stepped out of her comfort zone with this collection, and while I didn’t love every look, I admire how daring they were. This red latex look shocked me, and the patterned tights brought me so much joy. The same patterned tights are seen with this maximalist white coat, and the remaining two looks are a wonderful spin on workwear.

I tend to love Altuzarra, and this collection doesn’t stray from that rule. He always manages to flawlessly merge casual with glamour, the ruffles and sequins paired with immaculate tailoring is the stuff of dreams. Statement accessories such as pointed-toe heels, tote bags, hats, and gloves, completed every look.

Alberta, the queen of edge and allure. The repetition of the medallions and lace and leather create a beautiful storyline that is quintessentially Alberta Ferretti. The sheer fabrics and bold necklines enhance the risqué vibes, and this classic gold-chartreuse statement color (which I immediately associate with the brand) adds a gorgeous, and necessary, inconsistency to the palette.

God! Tom Ford is another runner-up for my favorite collection, but then again, when is the designer not? His designs bewitch me every time, the glamorous fur, statement sunglasses, hyper-mini dresses, and the show of a little side boob? Sounds like the components of my ideal closet. I have no cons about this collection, if I could include every look in this review, I would’ve.

Burberry. Oh, Burberry you have taken the cake this fashion month, you really have. How you’ve won my heart. Since when are you cool, Burberry?! Classic, always. Luxurious, sure. Iconic, without a doubt. But cool? Edgy? I’m mind-blown. They didn’t reinvent the wheel here, these are all silhouettes and textures we’ve seen before, but to see Burberry do it is something else entirely. The earthy, undone, rustic vibes are vibing. The low-waisted skirts are everything. The statement buckles are majestic. The fur is everything I’ve ever wanted. The ruffles are making me giddy. If I saw anyone walking down the street wearing one of these outfits? They could push me over and I’d say thank you. I’m nothing short of obsessed with my favorite collection of fashion month.

Ok maybe this Fashion Month wasn't that underwhelming. Well, that's all for today, but I'll make sure to keep you posted.

Love,

an aficionado
