October Obsessions

Dear readers,

You may or may not know this already, but my head is somewhat akin to a tornado, a hurricane, or some other insane natural event. Ideas, responsibilities, and oh-so-random thoughts are constantly swirling about, and so are my current hyper-fixations. Therefore, I’ve decided to make a list of these aforementioned fixations. Here are my October Obsessions:

  • The Pierces

I’m kicking this list off with my fall band of choice, the Pierces. Before you continue reading, I suggest you put them on Spotify, for ambiance purposes. Is it playing? Marvelous.

The Pierce sisters, Allison and Catherine, born and raised in Alabama created their eclectic band in 2000. Their “gothic alternative folk-rock” is filled with a hauntingly delicate, rockstar version of folk music, and it’s been the tune of my October.

One of their most famous songs, Secret, is the soundtrack of one of my favorite Gossip Girl episodes, “Hi, Society” (S1, E10), and is the iconic theme of Pretty Little Liars. Here are the Pierce sisters, and the vibes I think they give off:

  • Themed Photoshoots

Another obsession I’ve had recently is themed photo shoots. I’m sick and tired of photo shoots that claim to be the epitome of fashion when they’re shot in front of a solid backdrop! Take Vogue’s cover for the Barbie movie, for instance. Wow! You can take a picture in front of a pink wall? Congratulations, so can I.

I am a sucker for creative, unattainable photo shoots, and these two have been on my mind all month:

#2 Sporty and Rich: The Kennedys

  • Monochrome fall outfits

I love a good neutral monochrome, but during spring and summer, I tend to lean towards color and pattern. During fall, however, I focus on one (probably neutral) color and many, many textures. The colors of the outfits below are essentially the same, but the shapes and textures add dimension to the overall looks. Monochromatic looks are such an easy way to look chic and undeniably put together.

  • Surrealist Events

The next event I host will be surrealist. I don’t make the rules, Pinterest does.

I am obsessed with these avant-garde events that teeter the line between cool and ridiculous. I am patiently waiting for the right time to host one of these magnificently hedonistic gatherings that would force me to wear Schiaparelli (actually, you wouldn’t have to force me). I want a dimly lit venue with giant butterflies hanging from the ceiling. I want strange headpieces and guests who are undoubtedly committed to the dress code. If you haven’t a single clue of what I’m talking about, here are some pictures:

  • Slouchy bags

To give you some context, I am the type of person who carries around a giant tote bag filled with the rest of my purses. I am not kidding, though I wish I were.

For that reason, I am obsessed with the fall trend of large slouchy bags. Slouchy bags in general, because I am enamored with Loewe’s new squeeze bag. Reformation’s new bags also fit the criteria for my obsession:

  • The Bear

Finally, probably one of my biggest obsessions of the month: The Bear.

It took me far too long to start watching it, but I swear each thirty-minute episode is laced with crack because I am thinking about it 25/8. It is funny, sad, and chaotic in the best way possible. Some episodes are simply montages of food that leave me starving, while others are a mad combination of yelling, cooking, and hard rock playing in the background. Oh, and every episode features hot chefs.

Well, there you have it folks, a peak into my brain this month. I promise, every minute I’m not thinking of college applications is dedicated to one of these, hope you enjoyed, and hope you found something to obsess over too. We can obsess together.

Love,

a girl who promises she doesn’t have OCD
