I raided my grandma’s closet (not clickbait)

Even though I make this known quite often, I’ll say it again to solidify the idea. I’m a member of a very fashion-forward family, which means that my definition of hand-me-downs is quite different from the drab mental image typically associated with the word. So when my grandmother asked me to help clean out her closet, I practically squealed at the opportunity, and at the sheer possibility of acquiring some second-hand treasures.

On this particular occasion, I found the jackpot on the uppermost shelf of my grandma’s closet. My prize: five new bags. Here’s how I’ll style them.

Tropical Horn Clutch

This horn clutch is hardly practical, as it can only hold lipstick and some cash. It is, however, a beautiful night bag. I don't want to overpower it, therefore, a minimalistic dress would be my styling approach. Perhaps in a dark brown or charcoal gray, pulling from the clutch’s darker tones. Such as this off-shoulder number from Zara or this midi dress from Tibi:

Wrapping things up, I’d wear simple off-white sandals to match the bag. And some horn jewelry can’t hurt.

Southeast Asian Mini Bag

For the longest time, I’ve been obsessed with Southeast Asian jewelry, and I intend to buy my fair share of it during my next trip to New York. But until then, I have this gorgeous crossbody to keep me warm. Being silver, it’s also on par with fall trends.

I want the bag and its intricate details to stand out, preferably against a much plainer outfit, such as shorts and a T-shirt. And for shoes, some lace-up sandals would go nicely with the bag’s thin strap and delicate nature.

Boho Beaded Clutch

This beaded clutch is so cool, for lack of a better word. And, in my book, it looks like something Serena Van Der Woodsen, from Gossip Girl, would wear. Moreover, how would she wear it? I think a flowy white dress would suffice along with matching jewel-toned earrings, some gold bangles, and a fresh tan.

Jane Birkin-esque Straw Bag

ree

This bag is the piece of my closet dedicated to the late Jane Birkin. The Queen of straw bags and Princess of French style. I would wear it in a classic Birkin way, with worn-out jeans, a white t-shirt, and ballerina flats.

But I’d also wear it like this: An outfit worthy of the South of France, with 60s-inspired shorts and a classic sailor t-shirt, in addition to these black Mary Janes (a Steve Madden Marshall’s find).

Denim Darling

Believing I’ve saved the best for last, I present to you this denim-on denim Miu Miu shoulder bag. If you’re a recurring visitor to this website, you’ll know I’m a fanatic of denim on denim (another leading fall trend). So, consequently, I adore this bag!

A denim button down, with denim shorts and dark leather shoes? Yes, please. Maybe I could even add a denim blazer...

That’s all for today, folks, though I’ll let you know the next time I raid a family member’s closet. Gracias Abi, for my lovely hand-me-downs!

Love,

ree
